Are you trying to get ahead in your job and having a tough time? Do you feel like you are losing out because you haven’t had as much education/training as your co workers? If so, maybe now is the time to look into ways to further your education and expand your career opportunities.
Studies confirm that having a higher education will improve your life no matter what your race, gender, or family background may be. To the point, education works for everyone.
If you are not satisfied with your position on the company ladder, maybe it’s time to do a little career advancement homework. What kind of education does your immediate supervisor have? What about his/her supervisor? Do some digging and find out just what a college degree is worth in your company.
From personal experience, I can say that my BS in Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management made a big difference when I applied for my first "real" job as an assistant manager at Pizza Hut. Instead of earning at the bottom of the pay scale, I was brought in at max pay, actually netting more on my paycheck than the GM I ended up working under. This did not sit too well with him, but that is another matter… unless making more money than your boss is something you are shooting for 🙂
Your future is up to you. Ask questions and find out what you need to do to be qualified for the position and salary that you want. If the requirements include a degree, then resolve to do your very best to earn one. Your efforts are sure to be well rewarded.
If you are interested in a culinary degree (which is not an online offering) or a restaurant management degree (which CAN be taken online) you should check out New England Culinary.
Nice post, I agree. I am actually on the brink of graduation myself, hopefully i’ll get a nice offer. I have found a site that has helped me with career information. It is listed at http://www.careersandeducation.com, a ton of valuable career and degree information listed here.
