Have you ever seen the term “concrete scuba tanks” on the Internet? Of course not. One reason is that they don’t exist. The other reason is that because they don’t exist, no one has ever written a web page with the term “concrete scuba tanks” on it. What would happen if they did? Well, in this little experiment, we are about to find out. We have just used the newly invented term of “concrete scuba tanks” on the Internet for the first time, now we are going to step back and see how long it takes for major search engines to index our term and for this page to show up in search results. Once that happens, I’ll give you some ideas on how you can use this information to help get your own search term ranked and make yourself more visible.
[edited Friday 1/26] There is a bit more to the story than first meets the eye. After the weekend I’ll be back with a full report about search engine tips for jobseekers. In the mean time, a friend of mine who is an HVAC recruiter has challenged me to display some of my prowess at helping folks get “found” on the Internet. Since “HVAC recruiter” is a pharase that is not often searched for on the Internet, I told her that it would be a trivial matter for our site to show up in the Google SERPs for “HVAC recruiter” within a matter of a week. She indicated that she would agree to a wager, but nothing is set yet… hmmmmm wondering what I should ask for when I win. 😉
Glad to see I could help Carl with my earlier post on Recuiting.com — trackback –

LOL… Karen, I was hoping that you would understand something about SEO and good keyword usage. I found it interesting that you eschew the usage of WordTracker… most interesting indeed.
The author of the original article which prompted my post on recruiting.com didn’t release my comment on his blog from moderation.. so unfortunately for his readers, they will still be misinformed…. too bad.
Come On Carl buddy, I didn’t eschew the use of word tracker completely, but like other have said, too much emphasis is given to it.
Take your post, look at how well you rank in using the terms concrete scuba tanks – well if you want people who wanted to purchase concrete scuba tanks this would be the way to do it.. but people who want to buy sponge scuba tanks would not be any use to you … nor would you be any use to them
The problem with word tracker is that they include words that don’t fit the traffic that I need to generate. So, my focus is to generate traffic (limited as it is) to those who need ONLY the service I provide. Avoiding certain words. Yes, those words may generate traffic, but not traffic I need or want..
No, I am not losing business, in any way, those who need me find me, based upon what my website potrays.
I noticed you didn’t add concrete scuba tanks to your meta tags, it is Only in the body of this page, so I guess I was right huh.
But as you said, are you planning to make money on this?
This is an interesting converstion, but curious, why would you want your comments removed? This is an interesting conversation even if we do have differing points of views, so then I guess people can make the decision to take the best from both of us and forget the rest.
Don’t you think?

and see what was actually said by me.
Already we start a competititon not in good spirit. See Folks, this whole debate started with being chalenged about my rankings, and of course Not really accepting those of Alexa. Read my comments a few posts up.
As you can see I said that my rankings are great for the Small industry I am in… and that being number 1 on google with those search terms are reflective. Now, you may also note I also said those are not the only search terms that will keep me highly ranked on google.. I will be found on the first page and top 5-10 on Google using many more, especially within what I specialize in.. AND Yes folks without the help of the Alexa toolbar and agressive self promotion which can ultimately create alerts within the engines, and possibly allow one to be blacklisted.
Now, Carl has tried to implement these terms in his website with the hope that it would be high on Google, what he does’t realize that HVAC is indeed a heavily populated industry, but not as heavy in comparison as say Restaurants.. Note my post again – so just adding those words in your site will not be productive.. especially in this industry.. 😉 — I noticed you recently put concrete scuba tanks in your meta tags, that was smart, I must say… very good one..
So Carl, if we are to do this friendly wager, let’s do this fairly. We start with a New UNPUBLISHED Webpage in an industry that is heavily populated. We must agree on the industry we shall be choosing, and also the nitch within that industry.
Now there is not to be any mass emailing to friends to get them to click on the website, no, it has to gain popularity fairly – thus we are looking for about 2-3 weeks to get this published, And we are doing this like it was a brand new business.. and of course we want individuals to know about the competition to help us with our promotion fair and square.. but again no mass emailing requesting link hits..
We do know you are entrenched in the good ole boys network, and if we are going to do this, well then I call shotgun on Dave Mendoza, Jim Gorman, Jim Stroud and Jason Davis helping me out first.. 😉
So, are you still game? and we need a fair and square individual moderating this.. As I said, no Alexa Toolbar for promotion of site is to be allowed either..

Let’s try this again, Carl,
Folks plese go to
http://www.recruiting.com/design_your_web_site_on_a_shoestring_budget#comment-9742 to see what I actually said..
My claim to fame on google is not based on those two words that Carl keeps mentioning, and as he will come to see the industry is not as small as he thinks it is. Yes compared to that of the Restaurant industry it is indeed small. Anyways, I would like to clarify that my site has maintained active strength and top rankings with google based upon many different aspects.. and no alexa toolbar, aggressive self clicking promotion which can ultimately create alerts and get you kicked off the search engines
Now Carl, as you can see that adding those words to the site has not been very productive, and I understand why..
To enlighten folks, this all started due to my beliefs that Alexa is not a great tool to measure stats by, which I disagree is the best way to view any stats for companies as the stats will be skewered see post and my other commments to understand..
Anyways Carl, if we are to do this competition fair and square – starting with Unpublished websites, in a very populated industry that we both agree on and is consistent. There is to be no mass e-mailing to friends to say please click on links, it is to be fair and square.. which means that we are doing this like we were starting a new business in a new industry
No Alexa toolbar to selfpromote yourself either.
Now if we were to agree to use any friends to help us in promotion, I call shotgun on Dave Mendoza, Jason Davis, Jim Gorman.. 😉
These are fair rules Carl, and are you still game
