I wish I could say that I was kidnapped by aliens; it would be a great excuse as to why I missed several days in a row of posting on my blog.  But the reality is that I took a mini-vacation with some buddies and even though we brought along a computer, the hotel was of sufficient age that it didn’t offer high speed Internet connection.<\/p>\n

Now, I won’t reveal too much about the final destination, but I will tell you that there were lots of dings, bings, and bells droning on constantly interrupted by the occasional loud cheer of  "Black Jack."<\/em> And a funny thing happened to me while I was sitting at the tables for hours on end. I met lots of nice people, many of whom were sober, even though it is traditional for casinos to offer unlimited amounts of free alcohol. Robert was a high-roller from middle Alabama who consulted in all kinds of industries.  Rick and Nancy were celebrating their 17th anniversary and Rick worked in supply chain and logistics [an area where I happen to have a very nice assignment<\/a>.]\n<\/p>\n

There were probably 5 or 6 other folks who were working in areas that would have direct application for my field of recruiting. I wanted to make a connection that was more permanent basis with several of these fine folks.  Not to get tips on whether or not to hit my 12 when the dealer has a two showing, but because they would be great folks to network with for current and future recruiting projects. So I reached into my pocket and whipped out my business card holder and …. no wait, that isn’t what happened at all. I didn’t have any business cards with me, big dummy that I am. I’m thinking when I left, or I should say not thinking… I don’t need business cards, I’m going gambling. Don’t make that mistake. ALWAYS bring your business cards… you never know what kind of connections you might make.  The first step is to make sure you have a business card;<\/a> but with a little poetic license here is some great advice: "Don’t be as dumb as a pile of bricks – bring your business cards!"<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Oh, and one more thing, as Mike Sexton says "May all your pots be monsters and your cards live!"<\/em> <\/p>\n
